Community Support

Nfet/Job centre Plus European Social Fund (ESF) Co finance Project - People for Regeneration: Gannel Ward.

This initiative will provide substantive support to those residents of the Gannel Ward, Newquay who are most remote from the labour market, equipping them with the motivation, confidence and skills to take advantage of employment opportunities arising from the implementation of the Newquay Action Framework Regeneration Programme.

The programme is open to those people in the Ganell Ward who are in receipt of a primary benefit, i.e. income support, incapacity benefit, severe disablement allowance, carers allowance, bereavement allowance, lone parents in receipt of a benefit and those people who have been unemployed for 12 months or more and are in direct or indirect receipt of Job Seekers Allowance (JSA).

Initial assessment is on a 1:1 basis between the client and a qualified mentor in Advice and Guidance and the process will map potential barriers under five headings:

  • Motivation and Confidence.
  • Personal Circumstances.
  • Financial arrangements.
  • Employment Goals.
  • Skills and Qualifications (Basic and Vocational)

Under each heading a client centered Action Plan will be negotiated detailing SMART objectives to help overcome the identified barriers.

Clients will remain within the project for between 12 - 20 weeks. Our aim is to secure employment for a significant number of people participating in the programme (this programme will not affect the clients benefits). Opportunities for Work Experience including a work/training allowance subject to availability/eligibility.

Nfet are developing further social enterprise opportunities, which will support people and communities within the main Newquay Ward areas.
